true story: i saw shane and the popes in the early nineties in NYC. shane arrives VERY late - and needless to say the worse for drink - sans POPES and asks if anyone in the audience can play guitar and drums to back him up. luckily/unluckily members Black 47 (the support act) leapt on stage and the gig proceeded.
truer story: saw shane with pogues AND joe strummer in nyc, st. paddys day 1988. best gig ever. ever.

Charlie, I just looked at your blog. Haven't met many intelligent, literate americans, have you? You shouldn't generalize. There are some smart ones over here, they just don't have the loudest voices and they are CERTAINLY not represented in whatever shit media is being exported over there. Believe me.
