PROOF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a whim, I googled 'pitiful pearl.' I found a few different versions on ebay, but here's the one that most closely resembles the doll I remember.

See? I'm not crazy! The thing exists.

No wonder I'm twisted.

Who buys toys like this for a child???

I don't remember her eyes being that big and scary though. Oh well, it was 35 years ago.

Didn't they make horror films using this one? It makes Chucky look like a wimp

Good lord! I have a painting of this child! She has a similarly moon-eyed cat and they are BOTH CRYING!

I would buy it for my child. She could stage rescues, as this one would obviously be a hostage of the Care Bears

Is it one of those dolls where you pull the string and she talks? I can just hear say, "I will eat your heart while you sleep."

Damn, that's creepy. My parents wouldn't even let me watch the Smurfs and I still came out wrong, so who knows if our toys play any part.

Maybe she was trying to nurture empathy for those less fortunate.

If your parents had let you watch the Smurfs you might have stood a chance.

Shamus - that's not the doll I had as a child. The one here is the one that most closely resembles the doll I had. That one you supplied the link to doesn't look pitiful at all. She's ugly, but she looks happy. THIS 'un's got the clear glue tear drop. Sans teardrop, it ain't pitiful.
